How To Prevent Nail Fungus

 

It is often said that it is better to prevent a problem occurring than trying to solve it once it has happened. This applies to many fields and certainly for health related matters.

 Sound healthy habits are a better approach than trying to treat problems that arise from unhealthy habits To prevent nail fungus from developing on your nails it helps to follow these  tips.


Practice good nail hygene. Clip your nails regularly. keep them cut short and try to keep your feet dry at all times.

When you cut your nails cut them straight and not at angles. If you notice thickening in some parts of your nails so that they are not uniform throughout file them down to reduce the thickness.

After bathing or in any situation where your feet become wet make sure to dry off your feet completely, including in the hard to get areas like between your toes.

Wear cotton or wool socks which will draw away the moisture from your feet. If your feet tend to become moist often from perspiration or high ambient temperatures make sure to change your socks often

Just as often try to take of your shoes as often as possible and change up your footwear so that sometimes wear sandals and at others wear shoes on an alternate basis.

Periodically use anti-fungal spray or powder

When you clip your nails avoid removing or disturbing the skin around the nail as this may allow an access point for infection

Never go barefoot in public places. Wear sandals when in public baths or pools

If you elect to visit a nail salon make sure you enquire about their reputation and guage the general levels of professionalism and hygeine, ie using sterilized instruments.

If you suspect your have a fungal infection of a nail avoid wearing false nails or nail polish to cover it up as this may just exacberate the situation by promoting an environment that allows the germs to flourish.
